Simple Cognitive Load Task

Is current?:
Yes

This entry describes the files associated with a simple cognitive load task that provides participants with a seven digit number and asks them to remember it. Later in the study, participants are asked to report the number. There is an optional reminder page which presents the number a second time.

File One – Present the Number (cogload.html)

This page presents participants with the seven digit number to remember. Every participant is given the same number. There is no need to change anything in this file.

File Two – Remind participants of the number (reminder.html)

This page presents participants with the same number again. Again, there is no need to change anything in this file.

File Three – Ask participants 1) what the number is and 2) if they cheated. (recall.xml)

This page has an opentext response for participants to enter the number and asks a single question about whether they used any methods other than memorizing the number (like writing it down) to help recall the number. Again, there is no need to change anything in this file. A note: this page is an xml form, and thus requires a bit more information in the experiment file for the page to run correctly. The Task id in the definitions section of your experiment file should look like this:

<Task id="recall" type="xform">recall.xml</Task>
